He trained in London (St Mary’s Hospital Medical School), Nottingham (University and City Hospitals) and Edinburgh (Scottish National Sleep Centre, Royal Infirmary, University of Edinburgh). His fellowship in sleep disorders at the Scottish National Sleep Centre led to numerous publications in the field of sleep and respiratory medicine and award of PhD in genetics of sleep apnoea from the University of Edinburgh in 1995.
