I graduated with a BSc in pharmacology from the University of Bristol where I then stayed to complete my PhD in the Henry Wellcome Laboratories for Integrative Neuroscience and Endocrinology. My graduate and post graduate training both instilled a passion for basic biomedical research. I have worked with the synthetic biology community in Bristol since 2007 when we applied for and were awarded Research Council funding for a Network in Synthetic Biology. In early 2014 we were awarded ￡13.6m from BBSRC and EPSRC to support BrisSynBio, where I act as Scientific Manager.
