My research is focused on antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic bacterial pathogens. I also focus on the effects of critical antimicrobials on the microbiota of the gastrointestinal tract, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, horizontal gene transfer of antimicrobial resistance genes and ecology and evolution of zoonotic pathogens. Research Expertise: Antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella and coagulase positive staphylococci (MRSA & MRSP) Antimicrobial resistance surveillance Bacterial and antimicrobial resistance typing using whole genome sequencing and other molecular techniques Diagnostic microbiology Contract research with pharmaceutical industries for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Links with Industry Partners: I have extensive experience in working with Industry partners such as New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, Zoetis (formerly, Pfizer Animal Health), Novartis, International Animal Health Products and start-up companies working on new antimicrobials. I also work closely with Australian network of Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories.
