研究领域

应用人工智能及其基本原理控制湍流及流体动力学 Focus of my research and teaching are mathematical methods for turbulence control with experimental demonstrations towards greener transport and energy. Key enablers are model-free artificial intelligence/machine learning control and control-oriented reduced-order models. Control applications include drag increase, lift increase, mixing optimization and noise reduction for a transport and energy related configurations: multiple cylinders (fluidic pinball), car and truck models, drones, air taxis, propeller, airfoil, turbulent boundary layer, mixing layer, and turbulent jets. The control engineering research targets closed-loop turbulence control solutions. Turbulence challenges traditional methods of control theory with its high-dimensional, broadband frequency, nonlinear dynamics and with large time delays. We push the boundaries of traditional control with the powerful methods of machine learning / artificial intelligence. Research focus is the fast automated learning of nonlinear multiple-input multiple-output control laws directly in the plant and the automated development of control-oriented reduced-order models explaining the nonlinear actuation mechanism. Thus, unprecedented performances are achieved on benchmark plants often harnessing novel nonlinear actuation mechanisms. In power engineering, turbulence control has potential applications of epic proportion: drag reduction of cars, trucks, trains, ships and airplanes, lift increase of wings, disturbance mitigation of wind and water turbines, mixing optimization for combustion and chemical processes, just to name a few. Our research targets solutions for greener transport and energy with experimental demonstrations (cars, wings, multi-body configurations, etc.). The above mentioned control logic is a key to optimal performance for a given actuation and sensing.
