Many of the phenomena we see in everyday life and many of the research tools behind the nanotechnology revolution involve interfaces and electrons crossing those interfaces. Our research focuses on the chemistry and electrochemistry of solid surfaces that are modified with organic molecules. These are model laboratory systems that we can use to clarify on the fine details of charges moving across interfaces (electrode kinetics), we can use these systems to understand and hence predictably alter the chemical reactivity of interfaces (heterogeneous reactions and fluidics) or they can be an invaluable experimental tool to understand and harness the power of static charges in guiding chemical rates and equilibrium positions (electrostatic catalysis).
