研究领域

Vascular biology - the structure and function of blood vessels, bioavailability and bioactivity of nitric oxide (NO) and the role of vascular dysfunction in CVD. Atherosclerosis - development and pathogenesis of plaque formation. Type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome - effect of diet and nutrition on obesity, glycaemic control and glucose/insulin signalling. Hypertension and stroke - the role of CYP450 metabolites of arachidonic acid (20-HETE, EETs & DiHETEs), as well as the contribution of vascular dysfunction. Nutrition and lifestyle - dietary polyphenols (from tea, coffee, fruit & vegetables), dietary nitrate and lupin and their role in prevention and treatment of CVD. I use laboratory based techniques (in vitro cell culture, ex vivo aortic ring studies), animal studies and human intervention studies to investigate mechanisms involved in the development and pathogenesis of CVD.
