研究领域

Pharmacy Practice - in particular the pharmacist role in improving patients care through such activities as disease state management services (diabetes[Pharmacy Diabetes Care Program, DMEP Study, Pharmacy Diabetes Pilot], hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases), improvement in communications between community pharmacists, hospitals and general practitioners [MedeSupport Program], medication management reviews services (including palliative care), pharmacist prescribing, patient education (CMIs), pharmacist referral services (colorectal disorders) and pharmacist interventions [PROMISe III]. Quality Use of Medicines - here Jeff's research has focused on drug prescribing in the elderly (e.g. management of hypertension, use of prophylactic aspirin), in at risk patients (e.g. those with a history of penicillin allergy, the elderly) and hospital in patients (e.g. use of antibiotics, heparin dosing) and children (e.g. use of antimicrobials). He has also done research on drug stability in dose administration aids. Adverse drug reactions - here Jeff has looked at such issues as amiodarone-induced pulmonary toxicity, statin-induce cramps (and their management with Co-enzyme Q10), calcium antagonist-induced GORD and urinary tract symptoms. Pain management - Jeff is currently working on developing automated pain assessment tools for use in patients who cannot communicate orally, namely the very young and patients with dementia Pharmacy Education - Jeff's PhD focused on the relevance of the pharmacy undergraduate curriculum. He has also done research looking at student and pharmacist preparedness for patient care and interprofessional learning. Although, Jeff is interested in all things related to patient care and pharmacy, he is working with members of CHIRI, he has also been involved in collaborative research with pharmacy and other staff from Charles Darwin, La Trobe, Sydney, Monash, Macquarie, Queensland, Tasmania, and Newcastle universities, and a number of universities in the United Kingdom.
