Examination of virulence factors influencing the success of bacterial pathogens. In particular the role gene regulators play in controlling genes required to cause disease. This work involves the examination of the transcriptome of the bacterial species once the regulators have been mutated in order to determine which genes are under the control of a given regulator. We also examine the effect this has in various virulence models using a variety of tissue culture and non-animal systems.
The outcome of this work is designed to determine both the regulation and role various genes play in bacterial virulence, so that in future these systems can be targeted with antibacterial agents
