个人简介

Head of Schooland Course director, Electronic Engineering MEng (Hons)University of Wales, Electronic Engineering PhD Universityof Wales, Wavelet Theory of Optical Pulse Propagation CharteredPhysicist, Member of the Institute of Physics Member IET, IEEE Dr.Iestyn Pierce was born in Wrexham, Wales in 1971. He received the MEng (Hons)and PhD degrees in Electronic Engineering from Bangor University in 1994 and1998 respectively. For his thesis he worked on the application oftime-frequency techniques to modelling optical pulse propagation in non-linearmedia. Following his PhD he continued to work at Bangor University as apostdoctoral researcher investigating semiconductor laser dynamics including adetailed treatment of optical gain. In 2000 he was awarded a Lectureship at the School of Electronic Engineering, and became a Senior Lecturer in 2006. He was awarded a Bangor University Teaching Fellowship in 2008. Currentlyhis research interests include chaotic optical communications, optical studiesof genetic material and digital signal processing. He has published over 100journal and conference articles, and co-authored two book chapters onsemiconductor laser dynamics. DrPierce is a member of the IET, the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, IEEECircuits and Systems Society, a member of the Institute of Physics and aChartered Physicist. He served as Honorary Branch Treasurer for the Instituteof Physics in Wales between 2002 and 2008, and has been a member of theInstitute of Physics Chartered Physicist assessment panel since 2004. He wassecretary of the Science Committee for the 2005 National Eisteddfod, and chairsthe Engineering Centre for North and Mid Wales, which promotes engineering as acareer to school and college students.
