Neuromusculoskeletal Control of Human Movement The electromyographic (EMG) investigation of skeletal muscle activity during human movement has been used to determine motor control during novel laboratory tasks, and to investigate patterns of muscular activity during lifting and various sports activities. The results have applications in the areas of biomechanics, ergonomics and sports science & medicine. Recently, with my colleagues, we have studied the patterns of activity of trunk muscles and those crossing the elbow and knee during various static and dynamic laboratory tasks. Dissection studies have been used to complement information gained using EMG on live subjects. Data from cadaver specimens of the trunk and lower & upper limbs have been used to facilitate interpretation of EMG data. Collaboration with radiologists will lead to increased use of modern medical imaging techniques, such as ultrasonography and MRI, in the collection of data related to muscle morphometry, and movement of peripheral nerves related to joint motion. Anthropometric techniques have been used as an integral part of a number of studies.
