研究领域

Paulina has recently completed her PhD entitled “A needs-based approach to patient-relevant information delivery” which consisted of 3 major phases. Establishing health professional preferences during information delivery Consisted of one-on-one interviews with key health professionals in order to establish their information needs during clinical decision making in complex patients. System development System requirements were based on interviews with health professionals and literature review of: · Past clinical decision support system (CDSS) success and failures · Other studies describing health professional desires · Clinical decision making processes such as prescribing and medication review · Disease state management guidelines and drug monographs The system prototype was designed and developed using agile methodology in 7 months based on defined requirements. Process mode, business rule engine, basic interface and knowledge acquisition was developed by myself. Coding was done by a final year computer science student under my supervision. Usability evaluation User satisfaction with the system and the information provided was evaluated using a modified talk-out-aloud protocol, modified IBM’s Computer System Usability Questionnaire and focus group feedback. Overall health professionals were satisfied with the system and were most satisfied with the information provided by the system and the ease of system use. This project was of a broad scope encompassing major areas relevant to the health today: aged and complex patient care, data management and health informatics.
