Professor Hanrahan's research interests focuses on the understanding the role of GABA receptors in anxiety, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, epilepsy and learning and memory, including: Design and synthesis of conformationally restrained GABA analogues Developing molecules that allosterically modulate GABA receptor function Identifying and characterising natural products from traditional herbal medicines
