Dr Khalilpour previously worked with various oil, gas and biotechnology companies, and for the past seven years has been at the University of Sydney, where he is a senior research fellow at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. "My key research interests fall in the discipline of operations research for complex systems, with specific areas including planning, scheduling and enterprise-wide optimisation; computer-aided process modelling, simulation, synthesis and design; logistics and supply chains; decision analysis under uncertainty; econometrics, machine learning and foresight; and big-data science. "I am currently applying these methods and theories for integrated assessment modeling (IAM), computational sustainability, energy systems, and bioinformatics. "As a member of the Future Grid Project, my two medium-term research ambitions are to find innovative approaches for (1) optimal management of energy systems with intermittent renewable energy resources, which are un/available at un/wanted times, and (2) new pathways of carbon dioxide utilisation. These are crucial to ensuring the security and sustainability of both our energy supply and our environment."
