个人简介

Jeroen van Bokhoven has been an Associate Professor of Heterogeneous Catalysis in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biology since 2010. He was born in Maassluis in the Netherlands in 1971. He completed a degree in chemistry at Utrecht University (Netherlands) in 1995 and went on to obtain a PhD in inorganic chemistry and catalysis from the same university in 2000 (with honours). From 1999 to 2002 he served as head of the XAS (X-ray absorption spectroscopy) users-support group at Utrecht University before transferring to ETH Zurich in 2002 to work as a senior researcher in Professor Roel Prins’s group. In 2006 he obtained an SNF assistant professorship in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biology. He was the 2008 recipient of the Swiss Chemical Society Werner Prize.

Heterogeneous Catalysis

Jeroen van Bokhoven and his group work in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and (X-ray) spectroscopy. The goal is to determine structure-performance relationships which support the design and construction of better catalysts for cleaner and more efficient processes. Professor van Bokhoven’s main interests are the synthesis, characterization and catalytic analysis of heterogeneous catalysts and the development of advanced tools in X-ray spectroscopy to study the catalyst structure under catalytically relevant conditions. This combination provides insights into the structure and function of the catalytically active sites.
