个人简介

Prof. Grützmacher was born on March 24, 1959 in Hamburg, Germany. He studied chemistry at the University of Göttingen, (PhD in 1986 with Professor Dr. H.W. Roesky). Subsequently, he spent one post-doc year with Dr. G. Bertrand at the C.N.R.S. in Toulouse. After his habilitation in 1992 at the University of Heidelberg he joined the University of Freiburg as Professor for inorganic chemistry. In 1995 he was appointed as Associate Professor of inorganic chemistry at the ETH where he was promoted to a full professorship in 2001. His research work has received recognition through an ADUC Prize in 1991, a Karl Winnacker Grant in 1992, a Heisenberg Grant from the German Research Society in 1992, the Karl Freudenberg Award from the Academy of Sciences at Heidelberg in 1992, and the Carl Duisberg Commemorative Award of the Society of German Chemists in 1993.

Main group elements & Organometallic Chemistry

Since 1995, Hansjörg Grützmacher has been Associate Professor and since 2001 full Professor at the Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry at ETH Zurich. The research of Hansjörg Grützmacher and his group focuses on the synthesis of molecules which have exceptional functionalities. Currently three main research topics are manifested in the group: a) The synthesis of complexes with transition metals in unusual low formal oxidation states in the hope that these may serve one day as catalysts for light-driven bond coupling reactions, b) synthesis of persistent phosphanyl radicals, R2P·, which shall find especially important applications as contrast agents, molecular markers and reporters for molecular movements (spin labels), and c) the development of new synthetic methods in main group element chemistry with emphasis on organo phosphorus chemistry and the application of these compounds in coating processes (the latter topic is directed by Dr. Joëlle Levalois-Grützmacher). The experimental efforts of the group are accompanied by the application and expansion of theoretical bonding concepts.
