研究领域

Mission - Our research centers on the design of heterogeneous catalysts and reactor concepts devoted to sustainable technologies. The latter secures the efficient utilization of natural resources, the transition to renewables, reduced energy consumption and waste, and minimized environmental impact. Approach - The discovery and implementation of catalysts in industry requires the fundamental understanding of chemical and physical phenomena at length and time scales ranging over 10 orders of magnitude (play movie below). We strive for the establishment of structure-function relationships at different scales combining precision materials synthesis with advanced characterization and catalytic evaluation under relevant process conditions. Applications - We study challenging reactions of technological relevance with direct impact on society, including natural gas functionalization, carbon dioxide valorization, biomass to chemicals and fuels, and the manufacture of specialty chemicals.
