Many modern technologies are underpinned by materials with complex and tuneable electronic and magnetic interactions. Optimising these properties requires the creation of novel functional compounds and our work focuses on designing new coordination compounds that form extended crystalline frameworks. The unusual architectures of these materials are controlled by the cations and ligands they incorporate. Their useful electronic and magnetic behaviour are intricately linked to their crystal structures and we use cutting-edge characterisation techniques to facilitate the development of materials with enhanced properties via an understanding of their structure-property relationship
