个人简介
I am a Medical Radiation Scientist and I am currently Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging at Charles Sturt University. I have developed innovative methods for studying insects and their behaviour using non-invasive imaging which is now termed Diagnostic Radioentomology (DR): http://www.radioentomology.com/index.html. I am a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, Patron of the ANU Apiculture Society, a member of the Australian Entomological Society and councillor for the N.S.W. Entomological Society. I have been involved in the management and application of Australian stingless bees and European Honeybees since 1991. I am the author of the book "Imaging Techniques for Improved Bee Management", he contributed to the Whitley award winning field guide 'Native bees of the Sydney region' by Anne Dollin, Michael Batley, Martyn Robinson and Brian Faulkner, contributed to the book "Wildlife of Australia" by Louise Egerton and Jiri Lochman in 2009 and was awarded the F.G. Swain prize in 2006 for outstanding oral presentations at the University of Western Sydney Innovations Conference.
I have published 16 papers in internationally recognised peer reviewed journals and I currently lecture, publish and present information on the non-invasive study of insect behaviour and morphology using x-ray CT at various institutions such as the London Museum of Natural History, The Royal Society, Universities and associations throughout Europe and the UK. In 2008, while at the Swiss Bee Research Institute as a post-doctoral researcher, I received the inaugural Dr Eva Crane award from the International Bee Research Association for best original research paper where DR was described as an emerging non-invasive technique for behavioural, evolutionary and classical biologists who need to study animals without harming them. DR is now being adopted by other researchers at European synchrotron facilities and Macro/Micro CT scanners to non-invasively study morphology, physiology and behaviour of insects and my methods have recently been hailed as the "Gold Standard" for non-invasive imaging (Delaplane et al. 2013). In 2014, one of my DR images was published on the front cover of J.G. Ballard's novel "The Crystal World". I recently collaborated with the BBC televised program "metamorphosis", the BBC Earth series and with Sir David Attenborough's three part series "Micromonsters". I hold a PhD in Biology (University of Western Sydney) and a PhD in Engineering (University of Bath) and as the world's first "Diagnostic Radioentomologist", I am also Scientific advisor for PESTIVAL: http://www.pestival.org.
