Constructing chiral sensors for rapid detection and enantiomeric analysis of illicit drugs This project is aimed at constructing electrochemical sensors of portable nature to be used as fast, low cost, easy to handle in-field tool for the rapid identifying of target compounds of a forensic interest. The electrodes developed have enatioselective capability to enable distinguishing different enantiomers using cost effective simple analytical procedure. Development and application of field deployable Raman spectroscopic tools for non-contact and remote sensing of unknown hazards (in the solid, liquid and vapour phase) as well as other unknown chemical mixtures This project is aimed at developing a remote sensor as an in-field portable screening tool for law enforcement and forensic investigators. The sensor is to be used in stand off analysis of unknown threats to offer increased security levels to the public, professionals as well as critical infrastructure. It builds on the latest developments in Raman and laser technologies. Cost effective direct osmosis system for water desalination in gas mining This project offers a new application of water desalination using a cost effective desalination process. In this project a modified forward osmosis desalination process is to be used to address the need for potable water. The process desalinates water from an unconventional source using waste energy. It is environmentally friendly with a much smaller carbon footprint compared to RO process.
