个人简介

Dr Surya Bhattarai, an agricultural scientist and CQU research fellow, has strong farming, agri- business, research and teaching background. Surya took up CQU research/academic position since 2006 after completing his PhD in 2005 from CQUniversity Australia. His position and program are largely funded through industry collaboration and engaged research with primary industries both in Australia and overseas. Prior to joining CQU, he was a Lecturer in Department of Horticulture, Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS), Tribhuwon University (TU), Nepal. He brings valuable experience of participatory research and development from his 15 years of work experience with DFID UK government funded agriculture research and development program in Nepal. Surya is an experienced crop physiologist with extensive experience of horticultural and broad- acre crops. His research focus on improving crop water productivity through integration of smart irrigation, smart crop and smart fertilizer techniques. His research expertise on Oxygtion (use of aerated water for irrigation), is a lead research area, which attracts significant domestic and international collaboration for research and application by irrigation industries. Surya’s interests on interdisciplinary (e.g. bio-engineering) and multidisciplinary research (crop water management, soil fertility, soil health, environmental agriculture health crops), brings research projects and researchers together from within and outside the CQU, on projects focused on developing solutions for complex problems. Oxygation, green chicken, dry land rice and health crops are some of the examples of applied multidisciplinary research developing industry oriented outcomes. Surya in the team is continuously building postgraduate cohorts in these thematic areas, supported by improved collaboration, stakeholders’ engagement and industry participation in R&D consistent to vision and mission of CQU Ag resources group.
