Fiona completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Queensland and obtained a first class Honours degree in pharmacology in 1994. She continued her studies into the pharmacological modulation of airway inflammation with Professor Stella O'Donnell and was awarded her PhD in 1999. Fiona extended her training with a post-doctoral fellowship in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. She returned to Australia in 2002 to a Lecturer position with Griffith University Schools of Pharmacy and Health Science. Fiona has since worked for The University of Queensland School of Medicine as a Senior Research Fellow and currently works for CQ University in the role of Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) for the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health.

研究领域

Fiona's primary research interests are in the relationship between diabetes and inflammation and their effects on gastrointestinal motility and respiratory function. A focus of her research is the investigation of the role that the enteric nervous system plays in pathological changes in diabetes, in particular the parasympathetic nerve supply. Her group are looking at the effects that diabetes has on nerve function in the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts and how this may be modulated by pharmacological agents, including nitric oxide and the endocannabinoids, and particulate matter.
