Dr Schindhelm is Senior Vice President, Global Applied Research, ResMed Ltd, having joined ResMed in 1998. From January 1995 to June 1998 Dr Schindhelm was Professor and Head, Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, the University of New South Wales. He continues to hold a Chair in Biomedical Engineering at the University of New South Wales. He has broad experience in medical device technologies in general and in respiratory and sleep technologies in particular.

Cellular enrichment and depletion using affinity systems. Development of immunoadsorption systems for therapeutic applications. Biomaterials Development of collagen-based implants. Investigation of endothelial cell attachment to polymers for vascular prostheses. Assessment of materials for orthopaedic prostheses. Development of biostable polymers. Carbon-based materials for implantation. Bioactive materials for modifying tissues response to structural materials. Examination of haemodynamic and contractile forces on the interaction of vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells. Development of biomaterials for ocular applications.
