个人简介

André Pereira is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the MechBio Lab at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. His multidisciplinary research bridges multi-scale computational biomechanics and biomedical image processing. Currently, his work focuses on the mechanobiology of osteoarthritis, the leading cause of disability in ageing adults. In a collaboration between the MechBio Lab and Zeiss®, André is developing image-stitching algorithms applied to multi-beam scanning electron (SEM) microscopy data. With this novel imaging technology, the surface topography of biological tissues can now be imaged to nanometre resolution at faster rates than a conventional SEM. The first Google Map of the human femur was made available to the public in www.mechbio.org and has been featured in Science Magazine News, CNET, Gizmodo, Sydney Morning Herald and Quartz. André is an Imperial College alumnus with a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. Prior to his relocation to Sydney, he worked as a Design Systems Analyst for Foster+Partners, where he developed structural optimisation algorithms for space frame structures.
