Respiratory Diseases

I am a Postdoctoral Scientist in the School of Medical Sciences at the University of New South Wales, based at the Prince of Wales Hospital. My overall research aim is to determine the importance of respiratory diseases in vulnerable populations, including children with chronic respiratory diseases. This includes projects on investigating the role of respiratory viruses in exacerbation of chronic airway diseases including asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF), understanding transmission modes of respiratory viruses, and developing novel sampling and diagnostic methods for respiratory viruses (http://www.virologyresearch.unsw.edu.au/programs/respiratory/). I recently completed work on the NHMRC #633238 project “Exploring the role of respiratory virus infections in childhood asthma exacerbations” with researchers A/Prof Euan Tovey, Prof Guy Marks, Prof Helen Reddel and Dr Brett Toelle at the Woolcock Insitute of Medical Research, and the “Pathogens of CF study” in collaboration with clinicians at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. I have also recently collaborated with Professor Maria Craig on Enteroviruses and Type 1 Diabetes (http://www.virologyresearch.unsw.edu.au/programs/diabetes-type-1/).
