Respiratory Diseases

Cellular biology and immunopathology of respiratory disease, especially asthma, using cell culture studies and a variety of realistic experimental models in mice. Current areas of interest include mechanisms of regulation of the inflammatory response in asthma; the role of cytokines/growth factors in the development of inflammation, remodelling and airway hyper-reactivity in chronic asthma and acute exacerbations; and the influence of early-life infections and environmental injury in the pathogenesis of childhood asthma. Ongoing productive collaborations with colleagues at the University of Newcastle.
