Sharon Kazemi received her PhD in Surveying & Spatial Information Systems from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney. She has held academic teaching roles including the position of Visiting Scholar at the University of California Berkeley (2006-2007) and an Assistant Lecturer (Tutor) at the UNSW (2005-2006). Sharon is currently the Convener of GIS program at the University of Canberra. Sharon’s teaching interests are in advanced imaging and GeoProcessing; remote sensing and GIS applications; database design; geospatial information techniques and applications. Sharon concurrently holds the position of Corporate Spatial Information Manager at the Murray–Darling Basin Authority, where she has responsibility for managing enterprise geospatial data infrastructure and building long term spatial capabilities to improve the usage of geospatial information across the MDBA business. Since 2003 her research has centered on using analytical methods embedded in geospatial information systems and engineering to assist organisations, communities, businesses, scientists and professionals at all levels to recognise the utility of spatial information applications. Of particular interest are new technical advances for analysis of large geospatial data sets to solve spatial problems by integrating various data and modelling concepts over large spatial and temporal domains. Her specific emphasis is on the use of geospatial thinking to measure, model, predict and monitor changes in complex earth landscapes. Her research has resulted in 50+ publications and several awards.
