研究领域

My group explores transition metal complexes and purely organic compounds designed to have novel electronic and photonic properties. This work involves synthetic organic and coordination/organometallic chemistry, together with diverse spectroscopic and other physical characterisation techniques. NMR spectroscopy, electrochemistry and X-ray crystallography are used extensively. We also run computations, using especially density functional theory, as a powerful complement to experimental work. We have pioneered the development of metal complexes with tunable and switchable nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. NLO effects like frequency doubling and electro-optic modulation are of interest for telecommunications and other applications like bioimaging. Our studies involve a number of international collaborations with renowned research groups in Europe and the USA. We are also interested in making new dye-like compounds for various other fascinating uses including solar energy conversion and display devices.
