1988–1992 Gymnasium, Aargauische Kantonsschule Baden, Baden (AG), Schweiz 1992–1996 Studium der Chemie an der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule (ETH) Zürich, Schweiz, Diplom als Chemiker 1996. 1997–2000 Promotion am Laboratorium für Anorganische Chemie der ETH Zürich (bei Prof. Antonio Togni) auf dem Gebiet der asymmetrischen Katalyse mit Metallkomplexen. 2001–2002 Postdoktorat in Tokio, Japan, als JSPS postdoctoral fellow am Tokyo Institute of Technology, (Prof. Keisuke Suzuki), Studien zur Totalsynthese von Naturstoffen. 2003–2008 Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und Nachwuchsgruppenleiter am Institut für Organische Chemie der Rheinisch-Westfälischen Technischen Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen, Deutschland (Mentor Prof. Carsten Bolm). 2008 Habilitation im Fach Organische Chemie

Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry

The research of Prof. Hintermann (b. 1972) focuses on the development of highly active and selective catalysts for organic synthesis. Such catalysts can be used both in basic molecular research and in industrial production. The aim is to achieve sustainable and efficient chemical synthesis to provide new materials using minimal of resources.
