Prof. Buchner (*1960) erforscht der Prinzipien der Strukturbildung von Proteinen und der zellulären Maschinerie der Proteinfaltung, die es auch erlaubt, widrige Umweltbedingungen (wie z.B. hohe Temperaturen) zu überstehen. Neben dem Einblick in fundamentale zelluläre Prozesse liefern diese Untersuchungen auch wichtige Voraussetzungen für die Produktion von Proteinen in biotechnologischen Prozessen, wie z.B. für die Biosynthese von Antikörpern, deren molekulare Grundlagen aufgeklärt werden konnten.
