成都理工大学(原成都地质学院)1983学士学位,美国威斯康星(麦迪逊)大学1988年博士学位。已主持60余项美国政府资助的科研项目;2006年获中国国家自然科学基金委海外青年合作基金(水文地质类)。发表了Applied Contaminant Transport Modeling等5部专著及论文180多篇,内容涉及地下水污染机理、水资源可持续利用管理、生态水文过程等等。开发了地下水污染模拟标准软件MT3D和MT3DMS,在100多个国家得到广泛使用;提出了小尺度优先水流通道对溶质运移有控制作用的新观点和理论依据,在非均质性对溶质运移影响机理的研究中开辟了新途径;将先进的数学优化方法与复杂的野外条件相结合,在地下水污染治理方案设计、监测网设计和可持续性管理研究中取得了一系列成果。现任或者担任过国际学术刊物 Water Resources Research、Journal of Hydrology、Groundwater、Hydrogeology Journal 副主编,美国国家科研理事会(National Research Council)水文科学核心小组成员,国际水文科协(IAHS)国际地下水委员会主席(2009-2013);荣誉包括美国地质学会会士、美国地下水协会1998年度 John Hem 杰出贡献奖、美国地质学会2009年度 Birdsall-Dreiss杰出讲席奖。因为他对水文地质学和地下水科学的卓越贡献,于2013年同时获得美国地质学会O.E. Meinzer奖(国际水文地质界最高荣誉)及美国地下水协会M. King Hubbert奖(该协会最高科学奖)。
