Dr.ZhangisaresearchfellowatCenterofBioinformatics,AcademyofMathematicsandSystemsScience,CAS;NationalCenterforMathematicsandInterdisciplinarySciences,CAS;andKeyLaboratoryofRandomComplexStructuresandDataScience,CAS.Sheisareviewerofmanyinternationaljournals,includingCancerResearch,ScientificReports,Bioinformatics,PLOSComputationalBiology,InformationSciences,MolecularBioSystems,Oncotarget,PhysicaA,BMCSystBiol,ModPhysLettB,etc.
Dr.Zhanghasworkedonproblemsinprobabilitytheory,stochasticapproximationanditsapplications,featureextractioninpatternrecognition,informationmeasuresandtheirapplications.Hercurrentresearchinterestsincludecomputationalsystemsbiology,dataminingandnetworkscience.

CancerGenomics
Understandingthemechanismofcarcinogenesishasbeenagreatchallengeforhuman.Withtherapidadvanceindeepsequencingtechnologies,severallarge-scalecancerprojectshavegeneratedanunprecedentedamountofcancergenomicsdata,whichhasprovidedtremendousopportunitiesforthebetterunderstandingoncancerinitiation,progressionanddevelopment.Decipheringthosedataposesgreatchallengesandcomputationalproblemsforthecommunityofbioinformaticsandcomputationalbiology.Oneofsuchkeychallengesistodistinguishdrivermutations,genesaswellaspathwaysfrompassengerones.Wemainlyaimtodevelopcomputationalmethods(modelsandalgorithms)toidentifycancerdrivergenesorpathwaystoenhanceunderstandingforcarcinogenesis.
NetworkScience
Manyreal-worldsystemscanberepresentedbynetworkscomposedofverticesandedges,suchasbiologicalnetworks,socialnetworks,etc.Usuallythefunctionsofthesystemsarecloselyrelatedtothenetworkstructures(inbiology,networkmedicine).Weaimtodevelopmodelsandalgorithmstouncoverthetopologicalorganizationofcomplexnetworkstobetterunderstandthemechanismsunderlyingcomplexdiseases,biologicalsystemsandothercomplexsystems.Amongothers,communitystructuredetectionofcomplexnetworksattractsagreatdealofattentioninvariousdisciplines,whichmeansthedivisionofnetworksintogroups(alsocalledclusters)havingdenseintraconnections,andsparseinterconnections.
InformationMeasures
Informationmeasures,suchasShannonentropy,mutualinformation,Kullback–Leiblerinformation,etc.,arequantitiesmeasuringtheinformationaboutrandomoutcomeswhicharedescribedbyprobabilitydistributions.Wemainlyfocusedonproposingsomenewinformationmeasures,andthenanalyzingtheirpropertiesandapplyingthemtootherdisciplines.
StochasticApproximation
Stochasticapproximation(SA)methodsareafamilyofiterativestochasticoptimizationalgorithmsthatattempttofindzeroesorextremaoffunctionswhichcannotbecomputeddirectly,butonlyestimatedvianoisyobservations.WefocusedontheconvergenceanalysisofsomeSAalgorithms,andontheapplicationresearchofSAtootherdisciplinessuchaspatternrecognitionandfeatureextractions.
