Metal free visible light photoredox activation of PhI(OAc)2 for the conversion of arylboronic acids to phenols

The metal free visible light organo-photoredox activation of diacetoxyiodobenzene, PhI(OAc)2 has been carried out using eosin Y and this has been applied for the transformations of arylboronic acids to phenols. The method requires only 0.5 molar equivalents of PhI(OAc)2 and offers a metal free alternative for the transformation.
