Application of digitalization and computerization technology in road construction

Technological advancements have spurred the adoption of digitalization and computerization technologies within the construction industry. This paper employs a systematic review methodology, combining bibliometric analysis, text mining, and visualization techniques, to comprehensively examine the literature on the application of digitalization and computerization technologies in road construction. The findings indicate that digitalization and computerization technology (DCT) in road construction is an emerging research field, experiencing substantial growth in interest over the past five years. Countries with extensive road networks and controlled access highways exhibit greater motivation to enhance road construction efficiency and operational effectiveness. Analysis reveals that the implementation of digitalization and computerization technologies in road construction has primarily focused on sensor applications and visualization techniques for pavement quality control. Construction management is the predominant domain leveraging computerized systems. Challenges such as internet connectivity, high investment costs, technological proficiency, and sustained management support hinder the widespread adoption of these technologies.
