Nano-Cement Engineered Wood-boards (NCEW)- A review on wood-cement composite, materials, new technologies and future perspectives

The nature of wood is diverse having a positive characteristic like added strength, workability, stability plus low cost which gives it, its uniqueness. Unlike steel, ceramic or glass, wood moves as the moisture content of air moves, it continues to absorb moisture and decays. With recent search for highly performing materials in wood technology, it is of great importance to explore into other techniques to improve the workability of wood products. Composite wood will in the nearest future, probably replace some metallic structural members and plastics. Notably, multiple studies point to a unique role of engineered wood, yet there is limited information about nano-cement engineered wood. Nanotechnology is an advance technology that have prospect to fulfil the demand of producing green buildings. The development of new materials in nano meter allows new implementation and its association with modern technology would change the construction industry entirely. This article gives insightful reviews on wood-cement composite, materials, processing, uses, new technologies and future perspectives. In addition, due to the incompatibility of wood and cement design mixtures, using supplementary materials to substitute ordinary Portland cement are proposed.
