An Electrochemical Method for the Direct Sulfonylation of N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-sulfonamides with Sulfonyl Hydrazides

A facile electrochemical strategy for the synthesis of sulfonylphenol derivatives from N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-sulfonamides with sulfonyl hydrazides has been successfully developed. This metal- and oxidant-free protocol is suitable for aromatic, heteroaromatic and aliphatic reagents to afford the corresponding sulfonylated products in moderate to high yields under mild conditions. Notably, we successfully scaled up the reaction to gram quantities, underscoring its potential for larger-scale applications. Furthermore, the synthesized sulfonylphenol derivatives exhibited promising in vitro antibacterial activity, highlighting their potential therapeutic relevance.
