A sphere-like NiCo metal-organic phosphate-based electrode material for electrochemical water oxidation in neutral media

The development of high active catalysts from earth-abundant elements for electrochemical water oxidation is extremely desired. Herein, a sphere-like NiCo metal-organic phosphate (the molar ratio of Ni:Co is 10:1, Ni10Co1-MOPh) as an efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is discovered. Such Ni10Co1-MOPh possesses arrestive electrochemical OER ability, with a low overpotential of 270 mV at 10 mA·cm-2 and a Tafel slope of 269 mV dec‑1 for water oxidation under neutral media. It also exhibits conspicuous long-term water oxidation stability with its electrocatalytic performance being held for at least 6 h. For NiCo-MOPh samples with different proportions of Ni and Co, the resulting Ni10Co1-MOPh shows better ability for oxygen evolution than Ni1Co1-MOPh and Ni1Co10-MOPh. Therefore, the high content of Ni in NiCo-MOPh is an advantage for increasing the efficiency of electrochemical OER in neutral electrolyte.
