Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process that has several benefits over conventional welding techniques. A major challenge is its high sensitivity to process parameters such as advancing and rotational speed. Simulations are a key tool for understanding the material flow and temperature evolution and help to find the best processing parameters for a given FSW task. This work proposes using the Embedded Domain Method (EDM) for the simulation of FSW to overcome the limitations of (purely) Lagrangian, Eulerian, or Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) approaches.
