Urea formaldehyde resin used as plugging agent in fractured and caved reservoirs: Preparation, optimization and modification

The resin-based plugging and adjustment system is one of the effective methods to improve oil recovery attribute to their ability to generate insoluble and immiscible Polymer materials with high strength, excellent temperature and salt resistance. The urea formaldehyde resin (Poly-UF) was prepared firstly, then, the melamine was introduced into Poly-UF to synthesize melamine resin (Poly-UF-m ), and the preparation technical parameters were further established depends on single factor experimental method. As a result, the performances of Poly-UF-m were enhanced, the free formaldehyde content is reduced by 47.15 %, the solid content and viscosity are increased by 3.47 and 37.93 %. Based on the preparation and investigation of Poly-UF and Poly-UF-m , the 0.01 wt% HPAM, 4 wt% NH4 Cl solution (25 wt%), 3 wt% nano-SiO2 and 0.3 wt% C6 H6 O were introduced into Poly-UF-m to prepare resin plugging agent. As a result, it was confirmed that the Poly-UF-m plugging agent with excellent application properties, such as well temperature, shear, salt, water, kerosene, acid and alkali resistance. Moreover, the Poly-UF-m plugging agent with a denser structure, smoother surface, higher mechanical strength, smaller pores and better thermal stability. Furthermore, based on the core plugging experiments, the quartz sand as the simulation object for permeable rock core, and the results show that the plugging rate is 98.0 % by adding 20 wt% Poly-UF-m plugging agent to quartz sand, which indicates that the developed Poly-UF-m plugging agent has a good sealing effect on fractured and caved reservoirs.
