Antineoplastic drugs are critical for cancer treatment, but their lack of specificity can kill not only cancer cells but also healthy cells. Another challenge for cancer treatment is the development of drug resistance, making drugs ineffective. A study in Scientific Reports shows the development of a smart drug delivery system using nanotechnology that can specifically deliver antineoplastic drugs to tumors in Balb/c mice. This approach effectively treated breast cancer in mice using a substantially smaller dosage compared to free Docetaxel (DTX). These nanoparticles not only were more cytotoxic to cancer cells but also significantly reduced metastasis compared to free drugs. These results show a promising alternative way to deliver cancer drugs. Using this smart drug delivery system can create more effective therapeutics with fewer side effects, allowing better cancer treatments.
