Improving the productivity of agro-ecosystems and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is essential for ensuring food security and mitigating global warming. However, frequent shallow tillage (ST) compromises crop productivity and resource utilization in China’s paddy rice-upland crop rotation system, resulting in high GHG emissions and low ecological economic benefits.
