Inspired by the perchlorate activation process in microbes, a dinuclear Fe-NHC (NHC=N-heterocyclic carbene) complex was developed in this work to facilitate the two-phase activation of perchlorate through the cooperation of bimetallic centers. With the aid of photoirradiation, the oxidative potential of perchlorate could be released in a controllable manner to achieve the homocoupling of hydrocarbon substrates.
