Research progress of chalcopyrite and galena flotation separation reagents: A review

Chalcopyrite and galena, commonly coexisting in sulphide deposits, present a formidable challenge in the separation process because of their analogous floatability, complex ore structure, and intergrowth characteristics. Nonetheless, considerable advancements have been achieved in recent years in the research on the separation of chalcopyrite and galena both domestically and internationally. This review provides an overview of the advancements in the research of flotation separation reagents for chalcopyrite and galena, including collectors and depressants, and elucidates the interaction mechanisms between flotation reagents and mineral surfaces. After an objective assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of various reagents, this study proposes the application of mixed reagents and potential future research directions for collectors and depressants, thereby providing a theoretical foundation for the development of flotation separation reagents for chalcopyrite and galena.
