We were pleasantly surprised to see that the Wiener Staatsoper scheduled Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata during another exciting and successful 2024 European Respiratory Society Congress in Vienna. A coincidence perhaps, yet also a stark reminder that respiratory conditions and tuberculosis continue to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide; and also a tribute to Phthisiology, the mother of modern respiratory medicine.
