Increasing the price of alcohol to reduce its affordability has been the cornerstone of alcohol control efforts for decades. WHO considers this approach among the best buy interventions, with substantial evidence showing that raising alcohol prices—through increased taxation or minimum pricing—is associated with reduced population-level alcohol consumption and related harms.1 However, introducing such reforms, even in the face of growing alcohol-related harm, remains challenging.
