Nanocomposite contact lenses (NCLs) have emerged as a promising advancement in the field of ophthalmic materials, combining the advantages of traditional contact lenses with the unique properties offered by nanomaterials. This review presents a comprehensive overview of the recent developments and applications of NCLs. The synthesis methods and characterization techniques for nanocomposite materials are discussed, along with a focus on the incorporation of various nanoparticles, such as metallic, polymeric, and inorganic nanoparticles, into contact lens matrices. The impact of these nanoparticles on the physical, mechanical, and optical properties of the lenses is highlighted. The review addresses the applications of NCLs in areas such as drug delivery, vision correction, biosensing, and antimicrobial activity.
