A Farewell Message [From the Editor]

Javier Gozalvez

After three terms and six years of service, this will be my last issue as editor-in-chief of IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine ( VTM ). It will also be my last issue on the editorial board of VTM after 18 years of service since its establishment in 2006. In fact, my service started as early as 2000 when VTM was still a newsletter, and our current Vice President of Publications, James Irvine, asked me to join the team and write the Mobile Radio column. At the time, I was in the middle of my Ph.D. at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, U.K.). It was a period when decisions on 3G were constantly making headlines in the news. This was a fascinating time for a young Ph.D. student to start a career, and the continuous discussions over lunch about industry news led me to start writing the column for the Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) newsletter. I also have fond memories of the work and activities we did to transform the newsletter into what is now a thriving IEEE magazine.
