Tunable π-conjugated paths within molecular crystals were realized via steric hindrance and conformation-confined strategies. “Butterfly” with “orthogonal” wings exhibits an unusual hypsochromic-shift emission compared to solutions, which originates from reduced conjugation. Surprisingly, it demonstrates superiority in low-loss optical waveguides, deep-blue amplified spontaneous emission and unique piezochromic bathochromic-shift emission.
