Natural Resins and Gums (NRGs) are important Non Timber Forest Products produced from a wide range of plants. The review on mechanization of NRGs processing revealed that with the exception of lac and guar gum, majority of NRGs produced are typically processed following manual grading and cleaning before export. Most NRGs are exported in raw or primary processed form. Thus, there is scope for developing improved technique and machineries for NRGs processing and value addition including newer technologies i.e. automation, sensor application, machine learning and AI. Such development will result in reduction in processing and product development cost, manpower requirement and drudgery of manpower apart from improving the product quality. Improvement in product quality along with their production cost reduction will lead to enhanced export and foreign exchange earnings. Any development in mechanization of primary processing of NRGs will help primary processing of NRGs at rural level enhancing the income of NRGs pickers/producers as well as generating employment opportunity in NRGs production catchment.
