A metal nanocluster Au35Cd2(PNP)(SAdm)18Cl with both Lewis acid and Lewis base sites has been synthesized and characterized. It was developed as an efficient catalyst for the Ugi reaction, exhibiting high TOF, mild conditions, broad substrate scope and exceptional catalyst recyclability. Synergistic effect of the Lewis acid/Lewis base pair on the metal nanocluster has been verified as contributing to its high catalytic activity.
