Cell surface enzymes are important proteins that play essential roles in controlling a wide variety of biological processes, such as cell-cell adhesion, recognition and communication. Dysregulation of enzyme-catalyzed processes is known to contribute to numerous diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases and neurodegenerative disease. From the perspective of drug discovery and development, there is a growing interest in detecting the cell surface enzyme activity, propelled by the arising need for innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to address various health conditions.
